Element 6: carbon captures.

Element 6: carbon captures. Carbon is a uniquely fluid element through which we are able to record or trace our interactions with the world around us.This might be through its use in carbon dating, the formation of carboniferous fossils,  or following the pencil stroke of an artist or scientist. In this work, I explored this ability, and made a number of small devices possessing a thin and fragile film of this element, and implanted them into natural environments.  As the carbon surface was disturbed by various natural events, such as the footfall of small insects, the fall of rain, or the scuffing of a windblown leaf, this element generated beguiling archives of the natural history of the environments it was exposed to.
